Reading a world clock correctly

A world clock shows the local time in each city at the same instant. Two details catch people out. First, dates: when it is Monday evening in Los Angeles it is already Tuesday in Tokyo, Sydney and Auckland. Second, the gaps between cities change through the year. The UK, the EU and North America each change their clocks on different dates, the southern hemisphere changes in the opposite direction, and many countries never change at all. The zone label under each clock (for example GMT or BST, EST or EDT) shows which rule applies today.

For a future date, use the converter, which applies the correct rules for that day, or the meeting planner to find a time that suits several places. The full list of cities has clocks for 99 places.
