Where Mountain Time is used

In the US: Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana, most of Idaho, and parts of Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Oregon and Texas (around El Paso). These all switch between MST and MDT.

Arizona stays on MST all year, apart from the Navajo Nation, which observes daylight saving time. In summer, Phoenix shows the same time as Los Angeles. In winter it matches Denver.

2026 changes in Canada

Canada's Mountain Time picture changed in 2026. Alberta moved to permanent UTC−6 (in force 18 June 2026), so from November 2026 it is an hour ahead of Denver and the time zone database labels it CST. British Columbia moved to permanent UTC−7 on 9 March 2026, and the database labels it MST from November 2026. Yukon has used UTC−7 all year since 2020. The Northwest Territories was expected to follow Alberta, but this was not yet official in the database release used here, so check before relying on it.
